SUMMARY:
An undercover agent for the FBI, whose name has not yet been released, has been accused of spending more than $15,000 to pay for prostitutes while on a mission in the Philippines last year.
The money, court documents say, came from U.S. citizen’s tax dollars. According to the report, he spend approximately $2,400 each time he went to the brothels, in order to “reward” his partners for their hard work.
His partners, Sergio Santiago Syjuco, Cesar Ubaldo and Arjyl Revereza, are being charged with conspiracy and could face up to twenty years in prison. Their lawyer, John Littrell, has been working hard to get the charges dropped, calling it “outrageous government misconduct.”
While no charges have been filed against the agent, it is alleged that he used to name “Richard Han” to pay for his “entertainment,” of which alcohol, private rooms, food, and prostitutes for his whole group of friends was included. When agents raided Area 51 (where it is alleged the prostitutes were brought), more than sixty victims of sex trafficking were found.
IMPACT:
The yet unnamed agent is about to get a rude awakening. Not only will he, undoubtedly, lose his job but the other punishments could be much worse. Jail time is a definite possibility, something that will be a great change from being a respected FBI agent. Not only that, but if it is decided that he will be responsible for paying back all of the money he wasted, he’s going to have a long and hard life to live for quite a few years. In addition, the entire reputation of the FBI could be at risk. If one of their most respected, undercover agents is spending money on buying prostitutes, it’s hard to imagine what’s going on being the scenes. And of course, it could just be this one man who acted irresponsibly, but many will being to point their fingers back at the entire Bureau.
OPINION:
Personally, I already think the government is corrupt enough. Occurrences such as this simply increase that thought. But not the event itself. If this guy wants to spend his free time buying prostitutes, that’s his prerogative. However, the fact that he is using U.S. taxpayer’s money to do so is what gets me. People are already unhappy with having to pay taxes and now we learn that we’re basically paying for some dude’s “entertainment?” Yep, no corruption there at all…
