SUMMARY:
After being tricked by United States ATF agents, John McLaurin, Isaiah Benjamin, Tracey Theraldine Better, Blake Aristotle Betters, Brandon Harris, and Aaron Walker could face a minimum of ten years in prison for “conspiring to possess and distribute at least five kilograms of cocaine.”
The men, alleged drug traffickers, were planning on raiding what they thought was a drug organization’s stash house, but were instead met by ATF agents and the Baltimore police who arrested them on the spot.
It is expected that all six of suspects will enter a plea bargain although the attorney’s office refused to say more than that. Five of the attorneys either could not be reached or refused to comment on the matter.
IMPACT:
The six men involved in the sting are not going to be the only ones impacted by the event. Obviously they’ll be hurt the most by it but their families will also be impacted. The family of the Betters, who I’m assuming are related, will have to mourn the “loss” of the two family members, supposing that they will indeed be going to jail as expected. Although the other families will only have one member to lose, it will still be impactful to them. In addition, the entire drug raiding community (is that a thing?) might become more careful with what they do, although it’s highly unlikely that such a thing could happen (because let’s be honest, they’re sort of dumb to begin with). The AFT will also be impacted because of their success and they may decide to try the whole sting operation many more times.
OPINION:
To be honest, the men got exactly what they deserved. They were basically breaking and entering, which is bad enough in itself, but they were also doing so in order to steal drugs. Whether they get ten years or they get more than that, they deserve it. Unfortunately, it’s more than likely some of those involved in the sting will end up getting less time than expected due to plea bargains or something similar.
