SUMMARY:
Two former CIA agents, Jonathon Banks and John Rizzo, are being charged with the murder of hundreds of innocent Pakistani citizens. The charges were brought forward after the agents reportedly oversaw more than thirty drone attacks.
Shahzad Akbar, a Pakistani lawyer, has drawn up a petition to classify the attacks as murder, stating that it is the only way to bring peace to the victim’s families. If the petition passes, a “red notice” would be granted; the equivalent of an international arrest.
No further information has yet been released.
IMPACT:
The impact on the two men, Banks and Rizzo, will be most impacted. Their entire life will change, going from being high up CIA agents to criminals. In addition, the families of those who died will be impacted, finally getting some justice for what happened to their loved ones. While it won’t necessarily change what happened, it might give them some peace of mind.
OPINION:
I guess I don’t exactly understand this completely. Were the drone attacks on purpose or an accident? Because if they were an accident then I don’t think the agents should be punished as harshly, although they should still be forced to serve some time. If the attacks were intentional, they deserve whatever will come to them and possibly more. Either way the incident is horrible but it all depends on who’s really guilty.
